Niemann out with fractured leg
RHP Jeff Niemann will be sidelined at least 4-6 weeks, and possibly several months, after x-rays showed a small fracture in his right leg above his ankle.
Niemann was struck by an Adam Line ground ball in the first inning, and the Rays first announced he had a bruised ankle. But X-rays at a Toronto hospital showed the fracture.
Manager Joe Maddon said it was "a bad break" and "a big loss" and that he didn't know yet how they would replace Niemann. Wade Davis has been doing well in the bullpen, so it's possible they could promote a starter from Triple-A, with Alex Cobb and Chris Archer the top candidates.
