Not looking ahead ...

Friday's marquee matchup between LHPs Johan Santana and Scott Kazmir is a big deal, but Rays manager Joe Maddon said Thursday he was more interested in seeing how Casey Fossum pitched tonight rather than look ahead.

Maddon said he liked how his lineup looked on Wednesday with Rocco Baldelli back in the top spot and Carl Crawford third and plans to keep it that way. He also said it might make No. 2 hitter Ben Zobrist more effective since he won't have to take as many pitches as when Crawford was trying to steal.

Maddon did stick with Carlos Pena at first, raving about how well he swung in batting practice and in the game Wednesday. With Pena at first, Ty Wigginton went to second and B.J. Upton was on the bench. As planned, Elijah Dukes started in center and Baldelli was the DH.

The complete lineup:
Baldelli, dh
Zobrist, ss
Crawford, lf
Wigginton, 2b
Young, rf
Iwamura, 3b
Navarro, c
Pena, 1b
Dukes, cf
