For openers, Rays vs Orioles

The Rays are ready for Opening Day here at Tropicana Field, with manager Joe Maddon saying he feels the players are in a good place, and are going to "carry over the same attitude we had in camp," when they boasted the majors best record.

"They're all very excited about today," Maddon said. "They're ready, we're ready, the guys are ready. They know what's at stake. We're on a mission to do the same thing, we want to get back to the playoffs and the World Series. So I think you're gonna see an eager group out there."

There wasn't much news in Maddon's pre-game session, other than that C Kelly Shoppach will start behind the plate Wednesday against Orioles right-hander Jeremy Guthrie. It'll be Shoppach's Rays debut. Maddon didn't know yet who would start at second base, either Reid Brignac or Sean Rodriguez.

Maddon didn't have any real injury updates, other than that OF Matt Joyce (elbow strain) and LHP J.P. Howell (weakness in left shoulder) are progressing.
