Perez undergoing more tests; results likely Thursday
The Rays say OF Fernando Perez will undergo an arthrogram today to further examine the severity of his injured left wrist, with results likely not coming until Thursday.
Though there were indications Tuesday it wasn't a fracture, executive VP Andrew Friedman said it was certainly possible Perez could be out for an extended period of time. Several players said from what they heard, it sounded like Perez would be out a while.
Perez suffered the injury trying to make a diving catch in the first inning of Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Jays. He immediately left the game.
Though Perez could be ticketed to spend most of the season with Triple-A Durham, his absence could have an impact on the Rays opening day roster. If CF B.J. Upton isn't ready to start the season as he recovers from left shoulder surgery, Perez was considered one of the top candidates to take his place on the active roster, and could have received some playing time even if Gabe Kapler ended up starting in center.
More details as they come...
