Pitching matchups for Red Sox series

The Red Sox have finally sorted out their rotation issues and announced their probable starters for the four-game series that begins Thursday at Fenway Park, with the big news the planned return of Josh Beckett on Friday in a potential duel with Rays ace James Shields.

The matchups look like this:

Thursday, 7:10: RHP Kyle Weiland (0-1, 6.75) vs. RHP Jeremy Hellickson (12-10, 2.96)
Friday, 7:10: RHP Josh Beckett (12-5, 2.49) vs. RHP James Shields (15-10, 2.70)
Saturday, 4:10: LHP Jon Lester (15-7, 3.07) vs. RHP Jeff Niemann (10-7, 3.97)
Sunday, 1:35: RHP Tim Wakefield (7-6, 5.13) vs. LHP David Price (12-12, 3.40)

The Rays would seem to have a definite edge in the Thursday and Sunday games, the other two being more even depending on the health of Beckett, who has an ankle injury. The Rays won games with Weiland and Lester starting last week at the Trop.

The Sox - who lead the Rays  by four games as of this morning - play a 1:35 game today so the Rays will know their situation going into their game.
