Price: "I love being a Ray"

January

UPDATE, 5:29: Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman wouldn't say when, or if, the Rays would discuss a long-term deal with Price.
"The feelings are obviously mutual in terms of our admiration for who he is and the type of competitor he is, but as far as contract status obviously those are things we don't talk about publicly," he said.

BREAKING: David Price was more than happy with the one-year, $4.35-million deal agent Bo McKinnis worked out Tuesday with the Rays to avoid arbitration. And Price made it abundantly clear that he'd like the opportunity to stay with the Rays.

"I love being a Ray,'' he said. "I love the organization. I love all the guys in the organization, even the trainers and the guys that work in the clubhouse. I love it here. I love the community here as well. It's a good place for me to be. And as long as I'm here, I'm going to give everything I've got. If we could work something out, so be it. If not, it's part of the business and you just have to take it one day at a time.''

Price is under the Rays' control through the 2015 season (with free agency after that), but the issue may be how much he would cost to keep over the next several years. Philadelphia's Cole Hamels, who will be a free agent after this season, received a $15-million salary today.

Those discussions will come eventually. Tuesday, Price said he wasn't that concerned about his contract status but admitted he was relieved to have it resolved.

"It's a sigh of relief,'' he said. "I can continue to go on with my workouts and my throwing program and not have to think about any of this. I know I'm a Ray right now and I love being a Ray. I'm definitely happy right now.''
