Price set to be named Cy Young finalist tonight
Rays LHP David Price is in line to be named one of three finalists for the AL Cy Young Award tonight.
Under a new format, the BBWAA will reveal the top three vote-getters tonight for the Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year awards, and top five for the MVP awards, in each league, during a one-hour show on MLB Network, 6-7 p.m.
Price is considered a favorite for the Cy Young Award, with Detroit's Justin Verlander, last year's winner, likely to be his primary competition. Chicago's Chris Sale, Los Angeles' Jered Weaver, Seattle's Felix Hernandez are also expected to get consideration, along with Rays closer Fernando Rodney and Baltimore's Jim Johnson.
After the finalists are named tonight, the winners will be revealed - on TV for the first time - over four nights, on MLB Network 6-7, with the top rookies on Monday, managers on Tuesday, Cy Young on Wednesday and MVP on Thursday.
Voting, done by BBWAA members in each league city, was done before the start of the playoffs.
On Monday, Price won the Players Choice award - voted by his peers - ahead of Sale and Weaver.
