Rays beat Jays 7-1, complete sweep

August

The Rays beat the Blue Jays 7-1 Thursday afternoon, completing a three-game sweep in front of 23,462 at Tropicana Field.

It's Tampa Bay's first sweep since taking three from the Marlins (June 8-10).

Evan Longoria helped spark the offense, making his third straight start at designated hitter and going 3-for-5 while reaching base four times. He had two singles and a double, which was reviewed in the eighth as a potential homer, as it hit off the top of the left-field fence. Jeff Keppinger added three hits, and C Jose Lobaton had two, along with three RBI for the Rays (59-52), who racked up 13 hits.

That was more than enough for rookie lefty Matt Moore, who continued the Rays stellar run of starting pitching. Moore allowed just one run and two hits over six innings, retiring 13 batters in a row over a stretch, to pick up his ninth victory of the season.

The Rays will leave soon for Minnesota, where they'lll open a three-game series Friday night, with series in Seattle and Anaheim to follow.
