Rays blast Jays 9-4, head home to face Yankees
The Rays head home for a key three-game series with the division-leading Yankees on a bit of a roll, blasting the Blue Jays 9-4 on Sunday.
The Rays took control early, chasing Toronto starter Ricky Romero with a six-run second inning, and rapping a season-high 18 hits overall.
LHP David Price worked into the seventh for his American League leading 17th win, though wasn't particularly sharp, allowing six hits and a season-high matching four walks, plus he hit a batter.
Every starter in the Rays lineup had a hit, led by Desmond Jennings, who had three. New Rays OF Ben Francisco had a big day in his first start, homering his first time up and then doubling.
The Rays improved to 73-61 with the win.
The Rays and Yankees kick off the series at 1:10 Monday, with James Shields taking on C.C. Sabathia. Tickets are available in all seating categories.
