Rays could have moves coming
Manager Joe Maddon hinted there could be some changes coming today or Wednesday to the roster, which otherwise appeared set with OF Jeff Salazar getting the final spot.
Asked about changes, Maddon replied, "Not yet,' then said executive VP Andrew Friedman was working on several possibilities, both internal and external. "We're thinking about some things,'' Maddon said. "Later today, maybe early tomorrow morning you'll definitely have some more information, but for right now, no. There's possible alternative scenarios.''
If they go internally for another position player, the most likely choice would seem to be OF Brandon Guyer, a righthanded hitter who had been optioned to Triple-A a few weeks ago. Two other candidates were just sent to the minors a few days ago, OF Jesus Felicianp and INF Will Rhymes. Like Salazar, both are left-handed hitters and would have to be added to the 40-man roster. Another option already on the roster is DH/C/OF Stephen Vogt.
The other spot they could be looking to upgrade would be at catcher, but there don't appear to be many available candidates that would be a clear improvement over Jose Lobaton.
The bullpen has appeared set, with RHP Burke Badenhop getting the final spot. Maddon has, however, repeatedly praised non-roster RHP Romulo Sanchez, a 27-year-old with some major-league experience.
