Rays Damon leaves game with injured ring finger and listed as day-to-day
Johnny Damon suffered a bruised left ring finger that eventually forced the Rays leftfielder to leave Sunday's game against the Twins in the fifth inning. The Rays have listed him as day-to-day.
Damon was hurt in the third inning with runners on the corner when the ball hit the tip of his left ring finger during a foul bunt attempt. Damon appeared to have shaken off the injury when he delivered an RBI single on the next pitch to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. But in the fourth inning, Damon was replaced in leftfield by Matt Joyce.
During their five-game winning streak, Damon has carried the Rays with a club-record game-winning RBI in five straight. He extended his hitting streak Sunday to nine games, hitting .324 (12-for-37) during that stretch after starting the season 1-for-15.
Twice in the last three games, Damon delivered the walk-off hit against the Twins -- a two-run homer in the 10th Thursday night and an RBI single in the ninth Saturday.
