Rays Draft Central: Day Two

The Rays feel really good about their busy first night of the draft, when they had a record 10 selections in the first 60. But they've quickly turned their heads to this afternoon for rounds 2-30, knowing how players in later rounds can make an impact.

"If you look around our major league team, and look at the guys who were drafted later in the draft, the Ben Zobrist, Sam Fuld, Matt Joyce, James Shields, John Jaso, we have a number of guys who were drafted down below," executive VP Andrew Friedman said. "It's a good reminder for us that this day is incredibly important as well."

There are still some big names out there, including Jesuit College Prep OF Joshua Bell, an interesting case as a first-round talent who had sent a letter to teams saying he was going to stick with his commitment to University of Texas. There's also Juniper Serra High C Austin Hedges, a strong UCLA commitment.

We'll post updates throughout the day on how the Rays do, and later on tonight when Friedman and scouting director R.J. Harrison give their wrapup.
