Rays get back on track, beat Royals 5-3
The Rays re-discovered the offense and beat the Royals 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rays took a 2-1 lead after loading the bases in the 3rd inning, scoring on a sac fly by Ben Zobrist and a single by Jeff Keppinger. Thye added on from there, and when the Royals closed to 4-3, catcher Jose Lobaton hit a home run to centerfield, and then got an ice cream treat in the dugout for doing so.
James Shields worked into the 8th inning to improve to 12-7, and Fernado Rodney finished for his major-league leading 39th save.
The Rays, who lead the AL wild-card race, improved to 69-55, and open a three-game series on Thursday with Oakland.
