Rays go for sweep vs. Twins

The Rays will try to extend their 5-game winning streak and have a chance to sweep the four-game series vs the Minnesota Twins

Today's lineup will feature Rays hero Johnny Damon in LF and Sam Fuld getting a chance to rest his legs and DH.

“I wanted to get him off his feet a little bit,'' manager Joe Maddon said of Fuld. "Of course, we love his defense. But we have to protect him long-term for the season. The fact that Johnny has been DHing primarily, he’s kind of well-rested right now. I thought this would be the perfect day for Johnny to go out there and have Sam DH.''

Not in the lineup is hot-hitting rightfielder Matt Joyce because of his ineffectiveness against left-handers. The Twins will send lefty Brian Duensing (0-0, 4.15) to the mound today. Joyce, who has hit .524 (11-for-21) over his last five games is hitless in three at bats against lefties this year.

"I think he had a hit against a lefty in spring training on a hanging curveball and since then hasn’t done so good,'' Maddon said of Joyce. "I think people need to consider also may he does hit righties so well because he doesn’t see many lefties and that does not mess with his swing. There’s a whole bunch of different ways to look at it and for us, we’re built in a way where there are different platoons going on. I still believe he will (hit left-handers). But right now, I think he’s really good doing what he’s doing and we want to keep everybody involved.''

Switch-hitter Ben Zobrist will play rightfield and Sean Rodriguez gets the start at second base.
