The Rays completed their coaching staff by hiring Stan Boroski, a longtime coach and scout with Houston, as the assistant to pitching coach Jim Hickey. Boroski takes the job held by Brian Anderson, who will concetrate on the TV analyst role, working 50 games.

Here is the team release:

The Tampa Bay Rays have named Stan Boroski assistant to major league pitching coach Jim Hickey.
Boroski, 46, joins the Rays from the Houston Astros, where he has served as either a coach or scout during the past 18 years including the last three seasons as pitching coach for the Corpus Christi Hooks (AA) in the Texas League.

“Stan brings a nice versatility to the position,” said Hickey. “In addition to having been on the field as a pitching coach for the past 12 years, his scouting experience gives us another set of eyes from the stands.  The fact that he was drafted as a position player also provides a unique perspective.”

A native of Ohio, Boroski was the pitching coach for the Salem Avalanche (A), the Astros’ affiliate in the Carolina League, from 2003-06.  He served in the same capacity for Michigan (A) in the Midwest League for two seasons and had previously been a coach with the Astros’ Gulf Coast League and Appalachian League affiliates.  He served as a scout from 1991-93 and combined coaching and scouting duties at various other times during his career with the Astros.

Boroski was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers as a catcher out of Buckeye South High School in Tiltonsville, Ohio, in 1981 and spent three seasons in the Brewers system.  In 1985, he was signed as a pitcher by the Kansas City Royals and remained in that organization for four years.  Boroski has a degree in biology from Ohio University and resides in St. Cloud, Fla., with his wife, Carol, and two children, Sarah and Clayton.

He replaces Brian Anderson, who will serve as color commentator on approximately 50 Rays games telecast on FSN Florida and Sun Sports in 2010.
