Rays interested in Delcarmen
As the Rays continue their quest to rebuild their bullpen, one reliever they've expressed interest in is former Red Sox righthander Manny Delcarmen.
Delcarmen, a 28-year-old, spent the first five-and-a-half seasons with his hometown Red Sox before getting traded to the Rockies last August.
In 57 combined appearances with Boston and Colorado, Delcarmen posted his highest ERA (4.99) since his his rookie year in 2006 (5.06). But did have some successful years with Boston, and the Rays have had their share of experience facing him.
Delcarmen's best year came in 2007, when he recorded a 2.05 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 44 innings. Here's a good story on Delcarmen by ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=5516683.
As my colleague Marc Topkin previously reported last week, the Rays have been eyeing free agent lefthander Brian Fuentes as a potential closer, though nothing appears imminent on that front (at least, for now).
