Rays at Jays, with no C.C. (just for a game)
UPDATE, 6:08: A lot to run down today, so here's the quick version - Pena admits he "wasn't thrilled" to be put on DL but accepted it was best more for him and for team, with idea that he could play final 8 weeks hobbled or play final 7 weeks at 100 percent (or close to it); Crawford is just getting a day off given the Jays lefty starter and the Rays having to play 3 more games on turf after 11 at home, and he will be back on Saturday; expect Zobrist and Dan Johnson to split time at first in Pena's absence; Wade Davis told Rays he felt fine today so no injury concerns from Thursday. Also, the Jays had to put Pinellas Park product Jesse Litsch, of Dixie Hollins High, on the DL with a season-ending hip labral tear that will require season-ending surgery, so he obviously won't start on Saturday; lefty Brad Mills will be.
DEVELOPING: With Carlos Pena going on the DL (and RHP Dale Thayer called up), the Rays open a weekend series tonight in Toronto without LF Carl Crawford as Gabe Kapler gets the start in leftfield against Toronto lefthander Brett Cecil.
The Rays very right-handed lineup looks like this:
