Rays join trend, add extra coach to staff
The Rays joined the growing trend in the majors by adding an extra coach to their staff, promoting Jamie Nelson from the minor-league staff.
Nelson will assist hitting coach Derek Shelton and also work with the catchers under the title major-league coach. He will not be in uniform for games.
Nelson had been the minor-league catching coordinator.
Also, INF Sean Rodriguez agreed to a one-year deal for $1-million to avoid arbitration.
