Rays keep hope alive, beat Red Sox
The Rays kept their postseason hopes alive with a tense 4-3 win over the Red Sox Saturday.
Rookie phenom Matt Moore worked three innings in relief in Jeff Niemann, with Joel Peralta getting the save. The Rays scored on a two-run homer by Ben Zobrist, a wild pitch (with Desmond Jennings scoring) and an RBI single by Evan Longoria.
With the win, the Rays moved back within three games of the wild-card leading Red Sox, though with only 11 games remaining. The Rays came into the series saying they had to take at least three of four, so they left trailing by no more than two games, and they now go into today’s finale with that opportunity.
Lefty David Price will face Tim Wakefield, with first pitch at 1:35.
