Rays make Shouse deal official, designate Salas
The Rays finally completed their deal for lefty reliever Brian Shouse and made room on the 40-man roster by designating for assignment reliever Juan Salas.
Salas, 30, pitched in only five games for the Rays last season, spending most of the year at Triple-A Durham after missing spring training due to visa issues. The year before, was suspended 50 games after failing a test for performance-enhancing drugs.
Shouse, expected to play a key role in the bullpen, signed a one-year deal for $1.35-million, with a $1.9-million team option for 2010, or a $200,000 buyout.
