Rays second pick (at No. 31); C Justin O'Conner
Update 10:49 p.m. O’Conner, who also played shortstop and third base, said he’s most comfortable in the infield, saying he’s “pretty raw” behind the plate (he jsut started catching last summer). But O’Conner, an Arkansas commitment, appears like he’s pretty ready to sign and will play wherever he’s needed by the Rays, which have been his brother, Jacob’s favorite team for several years.
“This is like a dream come true to me,” he said. “Right now, I’m going to play professional baseball. That’s what I’ve always wanted to do.”
Developing: The Tampa Bay Rays picked a catcher with their second selection in today's draft, getting Justin O'Conner from Cowan HS in Muncie, Indiana at No. 31.
O'Conner was ranked the 24th best overall prospect by Baseball America, hitting .470 with eight homers and 40 RBI his senior year.
