DEVELOPING;

The Rays look to rebound from Friday's beatdown by the Marlins, and they will do so with a slightly different look today.

Veteran OF Gabe Kapler was placed on the 15-day DL with a right hip flexor strain and OF Justin Ruggiano was called up from Triple-A Durham.

Ruggiano was sent to Durham despite a strong showing in spring training. In 44 games for the Bulls, he hit .291 with four homers and 19 RBIs. He is expected to arrive by gametime Saturday night from Durham.

Kapler hit .217 with one home run and 8 RBIs in 38 games for the Rays. Though considered a specialist against left-handed pitching he he had hit just .215, and had only a .278 on-base percentage.

Also, former Ray Joe Nelson was designated for assignment by the Red Sox and told Boston reporters that if he isn't claimed on waivers he is considering retirement rather than go back to Triple-A.
