Rays vs. O's, repping Tampa



UPDATE, 5:54: Manager Joe Maddon had positive news in the injury report, saying both injured RHPs Wade Davis and Jeff Niemann (shoulder strains) were doing well, playing catch, and could be activated toward the back end of the upcoming west coast trip, possibly Aug. 23-25 in Anaheim. ... He also had good news on 1B Carlos Pena (plantar fascia sprain, right foot), saying he might play a rehab game in the minors on Saturday and could rejoin the Rays Monday, even with Texas starter LHP Cliff Lee. ... In addition to moving OF/DH Rocco Baldelli up to Durham, the Rays also promoted LHP Brian Shouse, with the idea that both could be stretch run additions. Also OF Emeel Salem was promoted from Double-A Montgomery to Durham, and Cuban 1B Jose Ruiz moved up from the Dominican Summer League to Montgomery.

DEVELOPING: Wearing their turn back the clock Tampa Tarpons uniforms, the Rays tonight host the Orioles and new manager Buck Showalter.
