The Rays and Yankees complete the first round of their home-and-home showdown series tonight, and it will be tough to top the first two nights in terms of extra innings excitement.

RHP James Shields will be on the mound for the Rays, seeking to bounce back from a series of poor starts, and recapture the form he had against the Yankees earlier this season in what was one of his best starts ever. The Yankees will counter with Phil Hughes, their young righthander who was skipped last time through the rotation in an attempt to limit his innings.

Going into tonight's third game, the series is 1-1 and the Yankees are a half-game ahead of the Rays. After tonight, the teams play four more games next week in New York.
