Rays want Chirinos to rehab, not play
The Rays didn't allow C Robinson Chirinos to return to action in Venezuela this week so he could continue the rehab process for his broken right wrist.
Chirinos, who was injured prior to the start of the winter-league season, had been working out with plans to join Magallanes for the round-robin playoffs.
But the Rays quashed those plans, preferring he not rush through the final stages of his rehab. The Rays expect Chirinos to be ready for spring training.
His role could be significant since the Rays - unless they make another addition - are looking for either Chirinos or Jose Lobaton (who was also shut down in winter ball due to a shoulder injury) to split time with veteran Jose Molina.
