A reported peek at Rays financial documents
The sports website deadspin.com this morning revealed what it claims are confidential and authentic financial documents from the Rays' 2007 and 2008 seasons, along with those of other teams.
The Rays have no comment on the issue as of now, and thus aren't confirming or denying the accuracy of the documents.
Here is a link to the deadspin.com story, as well as a pretty good analysis by Maury Brown at bizofbaseball.com that provides some context.
Among the highlights of Brown's analysis, the Rays:
* Made a "true profit" of $11-million in 2007 and $4-million in 2008.
* Received $39-million in revenue sharing in 2007 and $35-million in 2008.
* Generated $17-million in revenue from the 2008 postseason run.
* Got about $13-million each season from TV and radio revenues.
