Roster changes coming ... Brignac and Thayer on the way
UPDATE: Still not clear who is headed out to make room, but we now know this - they are going to the DL. RHP Troy Percival could be one possibility.
UPDATE: That was the right idea, because Thayer and Brignac are coming for sure. Now it's a matter of sorting out who is going, and the possibility there could be another move on Monday.
Thayer, 28, has been pitching very well at Durham, with an 0-1, 0.93 record and six saves in 16 appearances. This will be his major-league debut. Brignac, 23, is hitting .291 with 3 homers and 15 RBIs. He appeared in four games for the Rays last season, and was 0-for-10.
UPDATE: Still nothing official, but here's another interesting idea - RHP Dale Thayer, to help he bullpen, and SS Reid Brignac, providing some depth to free up Ben Zobrist to play more rightfield - at least for these three games under NL rules.
NEWS: There is no word yet from the Rays, which is not unusual since announcements typically come later in the day, but there are indications there will be some roster moves today.
Another hitter would make sense for the interleague series, and maybe some movement among the struggling pitchers - of which there are a few. Scott Kazmir? Joe Nelson? Troy Percival?
The biggest hint? A posting on the Triple-A Durham Bulls official Twitter account late last night that read:
+@#” and *#@+;! just got called up to the bigs.
Who that is, we're not sure yet. Just for fun, if the number of letters is right, maybe MATT Joyce and CARLOS Hernandez? Or WADE Davis and JUSTIN Ruggiano?
