S-Rod will have to play with pain; Brignac out; Longoria on verge, Scott too
UPDATE, 5:40: Manager Joe Maddon said Longoria will be in the lineup unless he reports any discomfort on Sunday, and that there is a chance Luke Scott could join him, as he made considerable progress the last few days with his mechanics. .. Brignac, whose baby with former girlfriend Lauren Anderson is named Reid Michael, will be back Sunday and could play as well. ... Matt Moore is set to pitch on Tuesday, Maddon said.
UPDATE, 4:34: Reid Brignac is scratched from the lineup tonight as he is away to attend to the birth of his first child, and replaced in the lineup by Tim Beckham.
3B Evan Longoria went through batting practice, against LHP Matt Moore, with no problems from his bruised right hand and is in line to make his exhibition debut on Sunday. Moore said he felt good and looks to make his first game appearance Tuesday or Wednesday.
BREAKING: INF Sean Rodriguez said he hopes to get back on the field in another day or two as he regains motion in his injured left index finger.
But he also revealed Saturday that he has "slightly torn tendons" in his finger and will be in pain for at least the next three weeks, which will take him just about up to opening day.
Rodriguez said he was told he could return to action as play as long as he can tolerate the pain, and said he expects to do so shortly. Sitting out is tough for him normally, and even more so given the spring battle with Reid Brignac for the starting shortstop job.
* LHP David Price said his neck, spasming after his over-toweling incident Thursday, felt better on Saturday, "almost normal.'' He will push back his usual between-starts bullpen session one day, until Sunday, and the a decision will be made on his next start.
* OF Sam Fuld said he came through his first game action of the spring Friday fine, with no residual issues with his right wrist.
* RHP Brandon Gomes (back surgery) is set for his game debut on Sunday, and RHP Kyle Farnsworth (cautious handling) on Monday.
