Soriano's first day ends early

UPDATE, 2:06: Soriano said it's no big deal, just a chest cold and something he had at the start of spring training last year too. Plus, he said he doesn't need much work in the spring, and won't throw his first bullpen session until next week anyway, and will probably only pitch in 7 or 8 exhibition games.

DEVELOPING: The Rays spent more than $7-million to add Rafael Soriano so he could finish off games, but he didn't make it to the end of their first workout Friday, leaving the field and going back inside due to what the team said was "a respiratory cold."

Soriano stretched with the team and played catch, but then left the field with head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield and did not return.
