Spring game report: Rays at Phillies (6-2 win)
UPDATE, 4:00: Rays win 6-2. Longoria said he was fine, that he was just scheduled for two at-bats. Price was pleased with his work, said his slider was best it's been in two years. Relievers Cruz, Ramos and McGee all showed well. Maddon said what he liked most was that it was a clean game.
UPDATE, 2:35 Wholesale substitutions for the Rays, with Juan Cruz on the mound to hold a 6-1 lead.
UPDATE, 2:31: Matt Joyce, who tripled earlier, doubles to in the sixth and B.J. Upton follows with another impressive at-bat, a blast off the right-centerfield wall that scores Joyce, making it 6-1. Upton then steals third.
UPDATE, 2:28: Price's day for Rays is done, 5 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K - 73 pitches (43 strikes)
UPDATE, 2:19: Longoria is sitting on the Rays bench, looks to be in good spirits and not getting any kind of treatment. Still odd though, unless the Rays really, really wanted to see Joe Inglett at third base.
UPDATE, 2:08: This is a little odd - Longoria came out of the game in the middle of the 4th inning, all other starters are still in.
UPDATE, 1:50: Leaping grab by Brignac to rob Rollins of a line drive single in the third.
UPDATE, 1:45: Johnny "Biceps" Damon follows with a long blast to right, Rays up 3-1.
UPDATE, 1:41: Reid Brignac gets Rays first hit, with a two-out single in the third, and Ben Zobrist follows with a home run to right. Rays up 2-1.
UPDATE, 1:37: A strike-em-out, throw-em-out double play keeps Price from further damage, as Jaso nails Delwyn Young trying to swipe third.
UPDATE, 1:34: Price walks two to open the second, strikes out Ruiz, then allows an RBI single to Matt Miller.
UPDATE, 1:16: Quick first inning for the Rays hitters, and then for David Price, who throws 12 pitches to strike out Rollins and Victorino and get Polanco on a ground out.
UPDATE, 12:43: No major news from manager Joe Maddon's pre-game, with Price expected to go about 75 pitches today in his fourth spring start. ... Several relievers in the mix for bullpen jobs are scheduled for action today - LHPs Cesar Ramos and Jake McGee, and RHP Juan Cruz. ... Maddon had another cool pre-game guest, Jack Seiwell, his midget league football coach. Seiwel said he, like others around Hazleton, was made when Maddon gave up football for baseball after his freshman year in college, but also acknowledged, "it worked out pretty well.'' ... There was some light chatter about the ground rules at the Trop and Maddon's suggestion for a new street sign in front of the building, that would mark the intersection of Rays Way and Another Way.
UPDATE, 10:11 AM: Phillies split-squad lineup:
