Spring game report: Rays at Twins (9-2 loss)
UPDATE, 4:11: Officially, Rays say Jaso sustained a contusion and is day to day.
UPDATE, 4:08: Rough day for the Rays all around as Jaso was being seen by a doctor as a precaution and Davis said he felt uncomfortable on the mound in the 9-2 loss.
UPDATE, 2:55: Jaso left the game in understandable discomfort, Thome's foul tip struck him in THAT area. Rays hitting in the sixth down 9-2.
UPDATE, 2:35: C John Jaso left the game - at the literal urging of Maddon - after apparently being hit by a foul ball. He tried to walk it off for a few minutes but clearly was not comfortable and Maddon came out to get him. When play resumed, Delmon Young crushed a three-run homer to make it 9-2.
UPDATE, 2:28: Davis can't make it through the fourth inning, having thrown 83 pitches and allowing nine hits (and six runs, with another two on base). Cory Wade is in.
UPDATE, 2:14: Casey Kotchman continues his hot spring with a two-run homer down the RF line - his first - to cut the Twins lead to 5-2 in the fourth.
UPDATE, 2:01: And now it's 4-0 as the Rays fail to turn an inning-ending double play because ex-Ray Delmon Young was hustlign down the line.
UPDATE, 1:59: Davis is getting knocked around a but, allowing two runs in the third as the Sox have strung together two doubles, a walk and a Jim Thome single to make it 3-0.
UPDATE, 1:49: Rays have four hits but no runs through three innings, Twins have two hits and one run, with Delmon Young singling and coming around to score.
UPDATE, 12:51: The Rays didn't hit or take infield practice today, so it's pretty much show and go. Maddon said he'll keep a close eye on starter Wade Davis, unsure that Davis is fully over the flu that forced him to miss Wednesday's start and noting it is hot here today.
UPDATE, 11:41: It's something of a big day for the Twins, as All-Star Joe Mauer will be behind the plate for the first time this spring. Twins lineup:
DEVELOPING: After two consecutive night games, the Rays have a later-than-usual report time this morning, and plans to skip batting practice, with arrival for the game in Fort Myers just in time for a quick infield practice.
Most of the big names are off today anyway, thouugh SS Reid Brignac, C John Jaso, DH Dan Johnson and 3B Sean Rodriguez are scheduled to play, and newly annointed No. 3 starter Wade Davis on the mound.
Here is the lineup posted in the clubhouse this morning:
D. Johnson DH
On Sunday, the Rays are back in Port Charlotte against the Orioles, and while most of the big names are expected to be back in the lineup, it looks like the Rays won't be taking batting practice on the field.
