For starters, Rays at Angels, with Shields pitching
UPDATE, 9:04: Pena said he was surprised to not be in the lineup but respected Maddon's decision and would be the best teammate he could be. Maddon said it was a matter of wanting to start as many right-handed hitters as possible. As for the infield alignment, he wanted to keep Zobrist at short and seems to prefer keeping Roberts at second, where he has been playing well. Plus, Rodriguez has a stronger arm than Roberts.
UPDATE, 7:30: A reason Pena is not in the lineup is that Weaver has actually been tougher this season on left-handed batters (.175 average allowed) than rigthhanded batters (.228). It would seem Pena could be out Saturday as well against LHP C.J. Wilson.
UPDATE, 7:09: Carlos Pena is not in the Rays lineup against Angels ace RHP Jered Weaver, with Jeff Keppinger at first base.
BREAKING: The Rays are looking to continue their mastery of the Angels tonight in a 10:05 start with James Shields on the mound against AL ERA leader Jered Weaver.
The Rays have recorded three consecutive shutouts over the Angels - July 28-29 and Thursday - and have an overall scoreless streak of 32 innings. Overall, the Rays lead the season series 6-1, having allowed a total of eight runs (six earned) in posting a 0.86 ERA.
In doing so, they have held the Angels trio of Albert Pujols, Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo to a .203 average with 1 homer and 5 RBIs.
Lineups when available.
