For starters, Rays at Jays, without Fuld
UPDATE, 5:59: Maddon said LHP J.P. Howell is good to go and will be added to the roster and available to pitch on Friday in Miami.
UPDATE, 5:58: Maddon said he didn't feel Fuld needed the two days off from a fatigue standpoint, but more a result of the schedule - Maddon didn't want him to face Romero tonight and wanted to play Damon on Friday. ... Maddon had an extended chat with C John Jaso to suggest an overall brushup in his game is needed, specifically "the controllable components." ... SS Reid Brignac said he is more disappointed about his poor play than anyone.
UPDATE, 4:57: Jays lineup:
DEVELOPING: The Rays are looking for a sweep of the two-game series with the Jays tonight with a different looking lineup.
In trying to find the right combination of hitters against Jays LHP Ricky Romero, who has had more success vs. righties and using some of the bench players in advance of a taxing travel schedule and weekend series in the heat of south Florida, manager Joe Maddon came up with a new plan, and the by-product is a day off for struggling LF Sam Fuld. Actually it may be two days off for Fuld, since Maddon said he planned to play Damon in the outfield for the opening of the Marlins series, in which the Rays won't be able to use a DH.
Meanwhile RHP Wade Davis will be on the mound, hoping some between-starts adjustments pay off.
Here is the lineup:
