For starters, Rays at Mariners, with scouts watching
UPDATE, 8:37: Maddon said all is quiet as of now on trade front. ... C John Jaso (oblique) has not started hitting yet so sounds like his return could still be at least a couple weeks away ... RHP Juan Cruz (groin) to make rehab appearance on Saturday for Class A Charlotte, could be ready when Rays get home ... Bullpen coach Bobby Ramos still not feeling well, getting tests related to throat infection.
UPDATE, 7:16: Upton is in Rays lineup, and said he still does not think he will be traded:
DEVELOPING: The Rays will try to build on the momentum of Thursday's stirring comeback win when they take on the Mariners tonight in Seattle.
Manager Joe Maddon always says momentum is the responsibility of the next day's starting pitcher, so the onus will be on RHP Jeff Niemann to keep it going. The Mariners, who snapped their club record 17-game losing streak on Wednesday in New York, will start Erik Bedard.
With Bedard considered one of the top starters available on the trade market, there are expected to be many scouts watching as he is coming off the DL, having been sidelined with a knee problem.
The Rays are also involved in numerous trade conversations, with most of the speculation focusing on CF B.J. Upton (Braves? Phillies? Nats?) and RHP James Shields (Reds?). There has also been chatter about 1B Casey Kotchman (Pirates?) along with several of their pitchers.
