UPDATE, 6:20: Manager Joe Maddon said he planned several days ago to give Crawford tonight off against Matusz, and it wouldn't be good practice to change his plans because a player had a hot night, such as Crawford did on Monday. Plus, Crawford is available to pinch hit and play defense.

Crawford said he was surprised when told Monday he'd be off tonight but understands it is part of their plan. "You want to play in all the games, but obviously they have reasons for everything they do and I’m just going to roll with whatever they want to do,'' he said. "I was a little surprised too myself. But I'm not going to go against the grain, I’m just going to do whatever they want me to do.''

UPDATE, 4:10: Rays make official signing of Cuban 1B/OF Leslie Anderson to 4-year deal. “Anderson is the consummate professional hitter,” said Rays Director of International Operations Carlos Alfonso. “We were also attracted to him because of his athleticism, and the fact that he can play all three outfield positions, as well as first base.”

UPDATE: Carl Crawford is not in the lineup tonight vs. lefty Brian Matusz coming off his 4-for-4 game and with a day off on Thursday. Also off tonight is Pat Burrell.

The full lineup:
Bartlett ss,
Rodriguez 2b,
Zobrist rf,
Longoria 3b,
Pena 1b,
Upton cf,
Aybar DH,
Navarro c,
Kapler lf,
Niemann p

It's much cooler and there's been light rain falling most of the afternoon, but the forecast is that it will clear by gametime here in Baltimore. The Rays will look to start a season with five wins in their first eight games for the first time in franchise history, and also to win their first two road games for the first time.

Jeff Niemann will be on the mound for the first time since being knocked from Thursday's game by Miguel Tejada's line drive.

Jason Bartlett is looking to extend his Camden Yards hitting streak, which is now at 17 games, the third longest active road streak against an opponent. The list, courtesy of Stats Inc.

Longest Active Road Hitting Streak vs. Opponent
Julio Lugo at Philadelphia Phillies 18
Andruw Jones at Milwaukee Brewers 18
Jason Bartlett at Baltimore Orioles 17
Hanley Ramirez at Philadelphia Phillies 17
Orlando Hudson at Chicago White Sox 17
Derek Jeter at Seattle Mariners 16
