For starters, Rays at Orioles, with players on the move
The Rays will try to go for their second straight win on their big nine-game road trip in facing the Orioles again tonight at Camden Yards.
There's been some news in the last 15 hours, with the Rays acquiring INF Ryan Roberts from the Diamondbacks last night; he's expected to be here today for Tampa Bay, which can use him to fill in at third base until injured 3B Evan Longoria (partially torn left hamstring) is ready.
Speaking of Longoria, he's on the field for an early workout today in Baltimore, and it appears like if all goes well, he could be headed for a rehab assignment, which manager Joe Maddon said would last no more than 3-4 games. It appears the Rays can work Longoria back in as a DH, and having Roberts helps that situation.
The Rays did part ways with struggling OF/DH Hideki Matsui, who was designated for assignment today to make room for Roberts on the roster. Matsui was hitting .147, in a 1-for-16 slump. The Rays have 10 days to trade Matsui, release him, or put him on waivers.
Tampa Bay does have its ace, All-Star LHP David Price, on the mound tonight, as he enters the day with an AL-leading 13 wins.
