BREAKING: The Rays are taking on the field for a Mother's Day matinee in Baltimore today seeking to snap an extended skid in which they've lost three straight and six of seven, dropping two games behind the Orioles at 20-14.
Mistakes have been a major problem, a combination of being shorthanded and having several players in unfamiliar positions and a series of bad decisions and mental lapses. Saturday, they made a team-record tying five errors, including three in one inning.
1B Carlos Pena is back in the lineup today after getting Saturday off, but Sean Rodriguez - who has a 10-game hitting streak and is their best defensive infielder, is off today.
Ace James Shields will be on the mound, in the familiar role of trying to stop a losing streak, and improve on his 5-1 record. The O's are starting Jake Arrieta.
