For starters, Rays at Rangers, in the heat
UPDATE, 7:02: Maddon said the Rays are still finalizing their plans for Thursday's roster expansion, and it was possible only one or two players would be here Thursday. It sounds like they don't expect C Jose Lobaton, who is supposed to catch tonight for Charlotte for the first time on his rehab assignment (left knee), to be ready, and might not add a third catcher until he is on Sept. 4 or 5. ... Shoppach is in the lineup tonight because Feldman can be tougher on lefties, and Shoppach has a 4-for-13 record against him. Also, Maddon noted that Jaso got "beat up pretty good" on Monday, taking several foul tips. ... The Rays had a brief, and optional, 10-15 minute workout before the game and Maddon was satisfied that was enough given the temps. Tuesday is expected to be the 14th consecutive game with a first-pitch temperature over 100 at the Ballpark, and the 25th of the season.
UPDATE, 5:55: The Rangers put OF Nelson Cruz and RHP Darren O'Day on the DL today, and added OF Leonys Martin, a 23-year-old Cuban defector who will be making his big-league debut, and RHP Mark Hamburger.
UPDATE, 5:11: Rays lineup:
DEVELOPING: The Rays are here in Texas and will go through an abbreviated pre-game workout in an attempt to minimize the effects of the extreme heat.
RHP Jeremy Hellickson, who will shorten up his pre-game bullpen, will be on the mound for the Rays, taking on Scott Feldman, who is filling for the skipped Matt Harrison.
This is the Rays first trip back to Arlington since last year's playoffs, when they won both games here then went home and blew Game 5.
