For starters, Rays at Royals, in the heat
UPDATE, 6:57 The Rays are definitely counting on Alex Cobb to go deep in tonight's game, as manager Joe Maddon said the three relievers who worked most of Sunday night's game are not going to be used tonight: Cesar Ramos, Wade Davis and Brandon Gomes. ... Maddon said it should help the Rays to be back under NL rules since they are still short a man due to Joel Peralta's suspension, but also that he will miss the NL-rules games. ... RHP Jeremy Hellickson threw a 60-pitch bullpen at about 80-90 percent effort and said everything felt good. He has been on the DL with shoulder fatigue, but expects to return to the rotation on Saturday.
UPDATE, 5:46: Rays lineup:
BREAKING: The Rays are in Kansas City for the next three days, and the oppressive heat has followed them, as the temps will be in the high 90s all three days.
RHP Alex Cobb will be on the mound tonight for the Rays, as they return to AL play after going 9-9 in interleague play. That means the Rays can use the DH again, with Hideki Matsui likely to serve in that role here, and with Luke Scott getting ready on a rehab assignment at Durham, where he hit two home runs today.
The Royals will start RHP Luke Hochevar, who is 4-7, 5.65 overall this season and is 1-2, 7.42 in six starts against the Rays.
