For starters, Rays at Tigers - underway for now
UPDATE, 1:02: The window is closing a bit, with a 35 percent chance of heavy rain by around 3-4 p.m. At this point, just plan on a long day and work backward from there.
UPDATE, 12:13: Updated forecast has improved, looks like there is a decent window now until about 6 p.m. .. Maddon said Elliot Johnson should only need about the two weeks he's on the DL to recover from the left knee sprain. ... Sean Rodriguez, using a new leg kick that has made him more effective vs. righthanders, and Reid Brignac will now share time at short.
UPDATE, 12:04: Tarp is off in Detroit, Rays are expecting to start on time. Question is how long they'll play w/more rain expected.
UPDATE, 11:07: Rain has stopped, but skies are still dark and temps are down to the low 50s. .... As for all the righthanded hitters in the lineup vs. Tigers RHP Brad Penny, it looks like a "reverse-split" situation, where Penny has been hit harder by righties than lefties.
UPDATE, 10:50: Rays lineup without Fuld, and with Rodriguez at the top. Rodriguez ss, Zobrist 2b, Damon dh, Longoria 3b, Joyce rf, Upton cf, Kotchman 1b, Ruggiano lf, Shoppach c, Sonnanstine p
UPDATE, 10:27: Rays make it official, put Elliot Johnson on the DL, reinstate Reid Brignac from bereavement list.
The Rays are suppposed to wrap up their three-game series - and try again to avoid being swept - with the Tigers in a matinee scheduled for 1:05 today.
But it may be a long day based on the weather. There was already one downpour at around 9:30 this morning, then the forecast improves until late afternoon, when it is expected to start raining again and continue for much of the night. So there would appear to be a window for the game to at least get started, but that, of course, could change.
INF Elliot Johnson is expected to officially be placed on the DL today (left knee sprain), with Reid Brignac coming back from bereavement leave to rejoin the team.
