For starters, Rays vs. A's



Update 5:36 p.m. Rays manager Joe Maddon said he plans most of his regulars at least one day this weekend, which is why Desmond Jennings and Carlos Pena are off tonight. CF B.J. Upton will also get a day during this series. But Maddon said Evan Longoria will play all three, third base tonight, DH Friday and third Saturday.

Developing: The Rays will look to continue their roll tonight, having won 13 of their last 16 as they prepare to host the A's at Tropicana Field.

Oakland, in the hunt but trailing the Rays in the wild-card race, have a different look, with RHP Bartolo Colon suspended for 50 games and SS Stephen Drew acquired from Arizona.

RHP Alex Cobb will be on the mound for the Rays, looking to bounce back from his last rough start.

Evan Longoria is expected to return to third base today for the Rays, as he gets closer to getting more permanent duty there.
