For starters, Rays vs. Braves

The Rays open a three-game interleague series with the Braves tonight at Tropicana Field.

Tampa Bay will start RHP James Shields, who went 3-1 last year in interleague (including three complete games). Shields will face a lineup that includes future Hall of Fame 3B Chipper Jones, a lifelong Brave who is in his last season.

*RHP Alex Cobb, officially named the starter for Saturday's game, was excited for what could be an extended opportunity, as RHP Jeff Niemann will be out until mid-July with a broken leg. Cobb said he found out Thursday afternoon and was in Tampa Bay by early evening, allowing him to spend a night at his Clearwater place.

Cobb said he was really encouraged by his last outing in Durham, and is close to where he was pre-surgery last season with the Rays, when he went 3-2 with a 3.42 ERA in nine starts.

*INF Will Rhymes took some swings in the cage and said he felt 100 percent hitting, and is available off the bench tonight. But Rhymes said they could wait until tommorrow as a precaution, as his right forearm is still a little swollen.
