For starters, Rays vs Padres
Update 10:05 a.m. Here's the Rays lineup, with Ben Zobrist apparently getting a day off and Sean Rodriguez in right, with B.J. Upton back in the leadoff spot.
Developing: The Rays will try to avoid a sweep by the hands of the NL West-leading Padres today in a matinee at Tropicana Field.
Right-hander Matt Garza takes the mound, eager to bounce back from what he calls the low point in his professional career, a loss to the Marlins in which he gave up seven runs over 1 1/3 innings. He said it was more of a mindset issue, and is confident he'll be able to get back on track.
Among the issues from last night's game was the recent slump of 3B Evan Longoria, who saw his batting average drop below .300 for the first time since April 23 last night. He went 0-for-5, stranding six runners. Here's what Longoria said after last night's game:
"It's just one of those times as hitters we go through," Longoria said. "I wish it wasn't right now. I wish I could go to the plate every time and help the team in some way. But it's just not going that way for me right now. I'm not going to make any excuses for it. I'm just going to come to the field and do the same things that have made me successful in the past and trust that it's going to turn around."
