For starters, Rays vs. Rangers

7

September

Update 5:51 p.m. LHP David Price will skip his Saturday's start as a precaution due to general shoulder soreness, but both he and the Rays believe it's not serious and he'll make his next start in New York next weekend.

RHP Chris Archer has been called up, excited for another chance in the big leagues. Archer was impressive in two starts with the Rays in June, filling in for the injured RHP Jeremy Hellickson. Archer said that experience gives him confidence, and he's ready for the challenge.

Archer was in Mobile, Ala, expecting to make a start tonight for Double-A Montgomery in the playoffs, when he got the call Thursday. It took him a while to get here, thanks to a two-hour plane delay in Mobile, but made it in around midnight Thursday.

"It's been a whirlwind," he said.

*Manager Joe Maddon said he feels comfortable with C Chris Gimenez behind the plate, which is why he's starting him again for the second time this week. He liked Gimenez working with RHP Jeremy Hellickson and also liked how he matched up with Rangers LHP Derek Holland. Looks like Maddon won't be afraid to use Gimenez down the stretch.

*While Evan Longoria returned to third base tonight, Maddon said it's a day-by-day thing how often he plays there this weekend.

*The Rangers announced that RHP Roy Oswalt will start Sunday instead of LHP Matt Harrison.

Update 5:45 p.m. The Rays lineup includes Evan Longoria back at third, and Chris Gimenez getting another start behind the plate.

Developing: The Rays, coming off a rare off-day, will open a three-game series tonight with the AL-West leading Rangers.

RHP Jeremy Hellickson will start for Tampa Bay, with LHP Derek Holland for Texas.

The Rays enter today's game trailing the Orioles and Yankees by two games for first place in the AL East, with their two rivals playing again tonight in Baltimore.

RHP Chris Archer, recalled today from Triple-A Durham, is in the house. He will likely be used as a spot starter down the stretch, mostly to spell RHP Alex Cobb, who will probably have three starts left, manager Joe Maddon said.

3B Evan Longoria, who played the past two games at DH, could return to third tonight.

Lineups, and more, to come
