For starters, Rays vs. Rangers
UPDATE, 5:50: Maddon said the Rays will keep their starters in order through Thursday's off-day, meaning for the Red Sox series they will start RHPs Wade Davis, Jeremy Hellickson and James Shields. The Red Sox will start John Lackey, Kyle Weiland and Jon Lester, with Josh Beckett officially being skipped. ... DH Johnny Damon's leg is better and he is available for pinch-hitting, but he likely won't start on Thursday either against Derek Holland, another tough lefty. ... Maddon acknowledged part of the reason he changed the lineup around was to present a different look to Wilson. ... Maddon also said he may give Casey Kotchman a day off Thursday, with Sean Rodriguez likely to play first.
UPDATE, 4:12: Longoria said the DH day was planned and it was a way for him to get a day off the turf.
UPDATE, 3:55: Rays lineup with Longoria at DH and 8 righthanders:
DEVELOPING: The Rays will try to extend their latest winning streak tonight against the Rangers, but they will have to solve Texas LHP C.J. Wilson to do so.
Wilson had been a challenge for the Rays, most recently last Thursday in Texas when he took a perfect game into the sixth inning against them. Overall, Rays hitters have a career .121 average against Wilson with 29 strikeouts in 91 at-bats.
The Rays will have RHP Jeff Niemann on the mound, as he seeks to make amends for his rough outing in his home state.
The one health issue with the Rays involved DH Johnny Damon, who sat out Monday after being hit by a pitch, but since he's a lefty swinger he might not be in the lineup tonight anyway.
