For starters, Rays vs. Twins
The Rays return home after a difficult, 10-game, three-city road trip, and will face the Twins tonight, with CF B.J. Upton back in the lineup.
Upton, activated from the disabled list after battling lower back soreness, said he's excited to be back, though acknowledges the injury will likely have to be monitored. He's feeling good physically, but acknowledges he won't be back to where he needs to be, hitting-wise, "overnight." To that end, manager Joe Maddon has Upton in the seventh spot in the order, trying to take some pressure off him as he works his way back.
To make room for Upton, C Stephen Vogt was optioned to Triple-A Durham. The Rays will have to make another roster move, with 1B/OF Brandon Allen - claimed off waivers yesterday - expected join the team Saturday. Maddon said the move will be announced after tonight's game, with speculation it could be SS Reid Brignac who could get optioned down.
*RHP Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) said he's feeling better, and is hoping to begin throwing in a week. He's expected to miss the first four to six weeks of the season. C Jose Lobaton said an MRI Monday on his right shoulder revealed only inflammation, and he's been encouraged with how he's felt - hoping to throw in the next few days.
LHP Matt Moore will start for the Rays, and won't have to face 1B Justin Morneau, who is out of the Twins lineup.
