For starters, Rays vs. Twins, chapter 8
Update 11:27 a.m. Rays manager Joe Maddon said he's got an encouraging update on CF B.J. Upton, though he's still unsure on a return date and haven't written up plans yet for a potential rehab assignment. Upton had said this morning he was hopeful to return during the team's first road trip, April 10-18.
*Maddon is still tinkering with the second spot in the order, with DH Luke Scott getting another look today. Carlos Pena has seen time there, and Maddon mentioned INF Jeff Keppinger is also an interesting option.
*Maddon said they are getting really close to deciding on the shortstop situation, with Sean Rodriguez and Reid Brignac having a close battle all camp, both improving on the "under the hood" stuff the Rays wanted them to.
*Maddon said his meeting with the team today was partly to rehash what he told the veteran "lead bulls" the other day, and give them some information on team policies, dress codes ("We don't have one"), etc.
Developing: The Rays and Twins meet for the eighth time this spring - and will do so again tomorrow - in the Port Charlotte finale today.
The Rays will have David Price on the mound tuning up for his Saturday night Game 2 start against the Yankees, and most of the regulars in the field behind him.
One thing to watch today is OF Jeff Salazar, who is the leading candidate for the last roster spot and gets the start in leftfield.
Also, Luke Scott is in the No. 2 spot in the order, which Maddon seems to be warming to.
