For starters, Rays at Yankees, on Jeter watch again

UPDATE, 4:42: Rays lineup: Zobrist 2b, Joyce rf, Longoria DH, Kotchman 1b, Upton cf, Jaso c, S-Rod 3b, Fuld lf, Brignac ss, Hellickson p

UPDATE, 3:39: One bit of early news, the Yankees have dropped Jeter to second in the lineup tonight, with Gardner hitting first.

DEVELOPING: The Rays face the Yankees in the second of their four-game series tonight - weather permitting - and the national spotlight will once again be on Derek Jeter's quest for 3,000 hits. He's two shy after getting one hit on Thursday, and faces Rays RHP Jeremy Hellickson, who grew up with his father being a Yankees fan and has a dog - a Yorkie he got in 2005 - he named Jeter.

Hellickson has faced Derek Jeter only twice, allowing one hit.

The Rays say there is a chance Johnny Damon could be ready to play tonight after sitting out Thursday with a swollen and bruised left hand that was hit by a Francisco Liriano pitch Wednesday in Minnesota.

The weather forecast could be a factor as thunderstorms are expected later, with a 65 percent chance at 5 p.m. and then again around 9.
