For starters, Rays at Yankees, in a marquee matchup
UPDATE, 6:16: Matt Joyce said his left ankle, twisted on his game-deciding homer Wednesday, was "just a little sore" and he is available to pinch-hit tonight. However, it should be noted he didn't come on the field for batting practice, staying in the trainer's room. He wouldn't have started anyway with LHP CC Sabathia on the mound for the Yankees. ... Manager Joe Maddon said Desmond Jennings was available to pinch-hit again, but his sprained left knee was not ready for him to play nine innings in the field; Friday is a possibility. ... Maddon wanted to go as right-handed as possible with the lineup, and even considered catching Jose Molina and using Chris Gimenez at first or third, but decided to keep the defense solid. The result is two lefties in the lineup - 1B Carlos Pena and 2B Will Rhymes.
UPDATE, 4:41: Rays lineup, again without Jennings:
BREAKING: The Rays and Yankees play the third and final game of their series tonight with a pair of talented lefties on the mound in David Price and CC Sabathia.
Price and Sabathia have matched up five times previously, and it has been one-sided, with Price 3-0 and the Rays winning all five. Since Sabathia has come to the Yankees in 2009, he has won only two of his 14 starts against them, going 2-6, 3.92.
The Rays won Wednesday's game in dramatic fashion, rallying for four runs in the ninth, including a three-run homer by Matt Joyce, who rolled his left ankle on the swing and limped around the bases.
The Rays have yet to clarify their roster for tonight, whether INF Jeff Keppinger will be reinstated from the restricted list, after missing Wednesday's game to attend a hearing in Georgia in his ongoing divorce case, or if they will keep OF Brandon Guyer, who could provide depth if Joyce isn't able to play.
