For starters, Rays-Yanks, trying again



The Rays are seeking to snap a season-high seven-game losing streak that all but officially ended their postseason hopes in tonight's series finale with the Yankees. They are also seeking to further delay the coronation of Derek Jeter as the Yankees all-time hits leader, having held him to 0-for-12 this far in the series. Jeter needs 3 hits to tie Lou Gehrig.

B.J. Upton is back in the Rays lineup, and manager Joe Maddon went against numerology and is not playing No. 9-wearing C Gregg Zaun on 9-9-09.
And Jeff Niemann seeks to further his Rookie of the Year candidacy with a strong outing - he has 12 wins, tied with Detroit's Rick Porcello and Toronto's Ricky Romero for most among major-league rookies.
